Happy Easter!!

We hope everyone is having a wonderful easter holiday. Amanda and I are doing well. Amanda is currently on a medical mission to Peru where she is just loving her experience down there. I hopefully will be able to go next time this opportunity comes up. I however, am busy preparing taxes. Up until April 15th, I will be spending everyday at work and working long hours. It's great for the money, but it gets old after awhile. Anyway, we hope you are all doing well.

Happy Easter!!

Yoga Posture of the Week

So, this week I chose the lotus posture, or Padmasana. Buddha is most frequently portrayed in this famous Lotus pose. This position it perfect for meditation.
Also, it:
1) Helps reduce excess fat in the body especially in the abdominal region. It aids in better functioning of the digestive and excretory systems.
2) Assists in the cure of pain in the knees, ankles, and back. Its practice helps those suffering from insomnia and asthma. (I'm not quite sure how, but it sounds interesting.)
3) Keeps the mind focused because it requires one to sit upright. It is a posture often suggested for practicing Breath Control (Pranayama), Concentration (Dharana), Meditation (Dhyana) and Self-realization (Samadhi).
Interesting isn't it?

Across The Universe

As I have mentioned before I am a big Beatles fan! I went through a huge phase when I was in middle school. The love of their music has never left me. That is why tonight I was excited because on American Idol they were doing Beatles songs. One of the guys performed one of my very favorites (behind Yesterday of course). He performed "Across The Universe". For those that don't remember this one, the lyrics go somethin' like this:

Words are flowing out like endless rain into a paper cup,
They slither while they pass they slip away across the universe
Pools of sorrow, waves of joy are drifting through my opened mind,
Possessing and caressing me
Jai guru de va om
Nothing's gonna change my world

Images of broken light which dance before me like a million eyes,
They call me on and on across the universe,
Thoughts meander like a restless wind inside a letter box they
Tumble blindly as they make their way
Across the universe
Jai guru deva om
Nothing's gonna change my world

Sounds of laughter, shades of life are ringing
Through my open ears inciting and inviting me
Limitless undying love which shines around me like a
million suns and calls me on and on
Across the universe
Jai guru deva om
Nothing's gonna change my world

Jai guru deva

I have always loved the words to this song, but it got me thinking that I had never taken the time to figure out what "Jai guru deva" means. So, I did a little research and found out that it means "I thank the Heavenly Teacher" in Sanskrit. Now I thought this line was very fitting for this song and it deepened my appreciation for this classic! I think I need to take a little more time to thank the Heavenly teacher myself.

A Rediscovered Love

I rediscovered an former love. I forgot how much I LOVE fruit roll-ups! They are tasty and fun! I can remember wrapping them around my finger, and making all sorts of neat shapes out of them. I also loved the cutout ones, where you could peel out the shapes and make some sort of things out of them.

In case you still aren't convinced I just wanted to prove how much fun they can be by showing this little fun idea I came across some time ago that I have been dying to try. You use twinkies, sour punch straws and dried fruit. One of these days when I have my own kitchen again I am going to try making some of these. I LOVE sushi, and I LOVE fruit roll-ups, so what a fantastic combination. Rob and I will have to throw a sushi party and make these for dessert, you would all be invited of course!
